What to Expect: Step-by-Step Guide to a Comprehensive Evaluation

1
Intake
We begin with an in-depth intake appointment (virtually or in person). During this session, we will:

-
Learn about developmental history, current concerns, and strengths
-
Gather information about school, home, and any previous services
-
Clarify your questions and goals for the evaluation
This is a chance for you to share your (and/or your child’s) story—we listen carefully to understand the big picture.
2
Assessments
Next, we tailor a set of assessments based on your questions and goals and the information provided. This may include:

-
Standardized Activities (play-based tasks, problem-solving, memory, attention)
-
Rating Scales completed by caregivers, teachers, and self
-
Autism-specific assessments, if applicable (e.g., Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-Second edition-ADOS-2, interviews)
-
Optional School Observation (when helpful and feasible)
Our goal is to gather meaningful, multi-source data in a way that feels approachable for your family.
3
Feedback Session
Once the assessments are complete, we schedule a virtual feedback session with you (usually within 2–3 weeks). During this meeting, we will:

-
Walk you through the results in clear, compassionate language
-
Discuss any diagnoses, if appropriate
-
Provide specific recommendations and next steps tailored to you or your child’s needs
This is also a space to ask questions and make sure you feel supported and informed.
4
Written Report
Following the feedback session, you’ll receive a comprehensive written report that includes:

-
A summary of background and concerns
-
All assessment results and interpretation
-
Diagnoses (if applicable)
-
Recommendations for home, school, and community supports
-
Documentation for IEP/504 plans or accommodations, if needed
This report is designed to be both professional and practical—something you can use to advocate across settings.
